I Thought I Am Your Only One

I remember how I said from the start,

I wasn’t going β€˜t.o.’ give you my heart.

Yet, somehow it has evolved,

And neither of us claims β€˜t.o’ know how it will be resolved.

You, make β€˜m.e’ feel like I am your only one,

But, then I see you here, and being the same with everyone.

So, why do I look forward β€˜t.o.’ your daily β€˜call’?

Anxiously waiting, while you β€˜flirt’ with them β€˜all’.

I know, I need β€˜t.o.’ give my head a shake,

Instead, I risk my heart will 'break'

That the day will come and there will be your β€˜call’,

When the truth is revealed and you watch me fall.

As Tennyson wrote, "'Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."

I can attest: my most incandescent, head-over-heels love affair eventually sputtered and fell back to earth. In the long run, finding love is not unlike finding sensible shoes.

That said, the emotional roller coaster of a *doomed love* is a life experience that (in distant retrospect) was worth the suffering.

That's a sad story and I know it's not true.
He probably feels more for you than you know.

Some people only care about themselves my friend, the feeling of others are no matter to them, no matter what they say or write. It's a good thing when you finally see someone for their true self.

Absolutely! I think we all have been thru that at times - no one get out unscathed. When personally involved, our glasses are always "rose colored". I'm sorry anyone has to experience something like this. You have the strength to work thru this, there isn't a time limit ... *huge hugs*

I fell completely irrevocably in love with a very special woman 10 yrs ago ,she was equally bonded to me ,circumstance beyond our control left us with no way to be together as we wanted ,we spent 5 yrs of one night a week and odd weekend days here and there , I could not provide what her family needed and she could not risk their security to change cities ,.I understood ,her family came first ,I felt she should find a local guy who had the means to keep everyone secure .I fell on the sword and walked out of her life expecting to never see them again .she tried once to see me gain but there was no time and no real purpose .it would be one more night we could not have each other as we wanted .The pain was horrendous but I lived and tried to move on , I never got her out of my heart mind or soul .My next relationship was a flop , i tried to replace her ,mistake ,she found someone who was chasing her for years who had lots of money ,moved to my city with him , 5 years later we reconnect ,i am divorced , she is unhappily trapped . The love just came back we both feel it though we are going slow ,the issues need to be resolved by her in her way and time . Even though it seems over it may not really be over . That once in a life love ,soulmate, is worth the risk and pain and loss . but we did not fight or breakup because of issues between us it was circumstance and distance .I am sure I will be asked about my actions back then at some point ,I am sure i devastated her heart ,but she made no concession to keep me around so I had no choice .

It's difficult when your perception of a relationship is much different than the reality. Thank you for your kind words and support .

Yes, when we look back on an experience, we can often do so without the emotional attachment. Our actions and sensibilities can be over-ruled by our heart when we are experiencing it. Thanks for stopping by and sharing your perspective.

Never been one to throw stuff. It does give me the opportunity to curse unashamedly 😊. My team, the Toronto Maple Leafs lost one overtime and are now down 2-1. They play again tonight and have to win or they will be eliminated.

Knowing others have also been through it does help somewhat. However, having the constant reminder displayed for all to see, is probably the hardest part. Thank you for dropping by and commenting.

Talking with another "victim" sometimes helps but every situation requires our own strength to rise again to the sun

I like the phoenix analogy. I continue to re-emerge no matter how many times life has tried to knock me down.

Beautiful but sad words very well written. We say what is meant to be will be but it doesn't make things any easier.I've been through it and it took me a while to get over it but we eventually do. I hope you find the lve of your life and live a lifetime full of memories.

I think that with the experience of age when I look at how many friends are divorced or parted that for most of us love never lasts a lifetime, there are a few I have known that go the distance but not many, from talking to people of my parents generation I get the impression that a lot stayed together only because of financial reasons and what was a real stigma at the time of divorce. Attitudes change but individuals still have a hard time knowing what they want, I think often this is because of the imbalance between love and lust and I think that the love part is the more important get that right and hey who knows how long it may last, it's a rocky road with all the outside influences that are the modern world. However I have found that I am still on friendly terms with several of my past loves and that now experience has taught me how to forgive and not ruminate but get out there and look again for the lid to my pot.

There's no doubt divorce was viewed very differently when our parents married. No matter what, couples stayed together 'through thick and thin'. I don't know if people today have less patience and individuals have become 'disposable'. We each have to find what works best us and sounds like you have. Thanks for sharing your perspective.
