The visual apprehension of a plank precariously bridging a turbulent stream causes a moment of pause. Immediately, bonds of trust are revealed to be securely in place. Through trust's powerful alchemy, trepidation is transformed into courage. Rather than turning back, the woman marches bravely forward, confident of the bridge's integrity and her own innate balance. Her trust is rewarded with a bold success, celebrated in her lover's embrace. To my mind, the story's final point is its most important- the appreciation of how intimacy and trust expand and alter our perceptions of the world, making us aware of what has until now gone unnoticed.

..... and though it has been alluded to before in the comments, the loins were definitely definitely girded for this maiden crossing..... touche madame..... ....funny thing.... earlier this summer I was on a similar jaunt... fair maiden crossed with ease.... alas, I, being of full bravado, skipped acrosst the twisted soaking wet plank until... BAM.... full on face plant...hit the bridge and slipped into the water... my girded loins were girded no longer....where is the bidet when you need one.... hopping up with an explaimation of "I'm fine!" while the adrenalin was flowing, succumbed to...... ow, I need a drink... and 6-8 weeks of recovery to mend my broken ribs.... and the ordinary was transformed once again.... carpe diem....
