I haven't gotten to read a book in the past couple of weeks but the last I finished was Stephen King's, The Dome. It was soo long but good. It made me think about why we are here. Our power on this planet or the lack of power I need to find a happy book to read next. The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

Nope. You weren't. Entirely too angsty and whingy for me. But, what brought me over (aside from the Hijack posts) was the Christopher Moore notation. I just finished Lamb and Practical Demonkeeping is awaiting a read.... I'm going to now, have to read all however many pages of the comments to find more goodies to read... LOL... Gabriel Garcia Marquez... I'm probably the only person in the world who hated "One Hundred Years of Solitude" and couldn't finish it... I usually try the authors that my countrymen give the Nobel Price to, but I didn't get that one! If I have to pick an author who's original writings are in Spanish, I will hands down pick Arturo Perez-Reverte... I'm going to now, have to read all however many pages of the comments to find more goodies to read...

Hi!! I rate you and "A"

Lemme see: Black Jewels - Red 'em Twice... (I have read the continuations too, but they are not as good) Dark Tower - Red 'em Once... Terry Brooks - I bought the five books of the Landover series, couldn't even get trough the third one, so I think I skip Shanara... My ex loves 'em though! (Have you read Jim Butcher's Codex Alera?) Harry Potter - I tried to read the first one but couldn't get into it... It was probably a mood thing (my mood), so I will try again... Robin Cook - I think I read one of his books a long time ago... Stephen King - But of course, he's the King! (I like Koontz too) Peter Straub - Have read a few of his here and there... Poetry - Not really my thing, but now and then I find something special, like Dylan Thomas for instance... The Left Behind series - Sorry, but I started the first one and didn't even finish it... It went in the trash! However, if you are Christian it's probably a good read, but since I'm not, well... Keep the suggestions coming! Just finished Sniper One by Dan Mills the other day....pretty frightening account of a British battallion in Iraq. Hard to put down once I started! Also just re-read all C.S. Lewis' Narnia books. Haven't read them since I was a kid and I'm still mad about the ending of the final story (The Last Battle): it was a mix of an upper and a downer, but didn't leave me level. lol War stuff is not really my thing, but I'm sure it was good... I mean since you said so and if you are into those kinda books... The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

Hi, I've just finished reading Saturday by Ian McEwan which I thought ws so-so. I've loved just about very book by Gabriel Garcia Marquez that I've read. Right now I'm reading the God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. I'm already an atheist but his book is eye-opening in covering some of the bizarre arguments used for the existence of God. LOL, yeah they are a bit "raunchier"! She said herself in the last one that she was taking a break on writing them because of having teenagers herself!!!! I think that they are mistakenly listed as "young adult" only because the main character is fairly young. Of course I have read Christopher Moore, both me and Jam are fans. Neil Gaiman I have heard of and want to try. You should totally try Jim C. Hines' Goblin books. Dry humor and fantasy, how can one go wrong? Because of his books I also bought a book by A. Lee Martinez - "Too many curses", but I haven't gotten around to that one yet... Check it out on Amazon, sounds like it could be fun. At the moment I'm reading Simon R. Green's third book in the Drood series, "The Spy Who Haunted Me" (The three books out so far are "The Man With The Golden Torc" "Daemons Are Forever" and the spy one. Bond spoofs and his alternate identity from Eddie Drood is Shaman Bond). This series is not AS dark as the Nightside, more tongue in cheek. If you never tried this author you should totally do so too. Jamie LOVES the Nightside books, but haven't gotten around to the Drood ones yet. He's still working his way through Jim Butcher's Dresden Files... Which btw I recommended to him and he's hooked. On facebook I have this virtual bookshelf that I'm updating... Sheeesh, it's a job and a half! I'm not logging in much anymore myself either. Dunno why, it just seems like I don't have much to say lately... Give my best to Jeff from both me and Jamie too, and if you guys are EVER in Southern California you would like totally have to stop by! Actually I kind of prefer historical fact I think, if Im not reading an old novel (I love Edgar Allan Poe btw) from the time in question (Deccamerone by Boccacio is good too, lots of tall tales)... You didnt answer about Stieg Trenter btw, a swedish crime-writer during about the second third of the twentieth century Kind of interesting if youre looking for something with a slight Agatha Christie-feel to it. If you do give Pratchett a try maybe you should start with the books on Vimes in the City Watch, theyre kind crime-novel-ish... The first is Guards!Guards! and then Men at arms... in that kind of part of the series... another series in the series are the books about Mistress Weatherwax, a senior witch with her own coven, yet another in-series series is about Rincewind, the incredibly failed magician... the first two books are kind of about him btw... It was Stieg Larsson that I meant, I guess hes much more famous inside of Sweden than outside of it. He was a reporter who wrote the three books of the series but then passed away in a heart attack I believe it was before any of them got published and then hit the bestseller-lists. They released the movie of the first book a month or two ago I think. His language is so-and-so I think, its a bit better in the first but then it starts going downhill at times when he gets bogged down in details. Hes better at the characters and theres one thats really stuck inside of people's heads: Lisbeth Salander (short for Elisabeth I believe). Short and anorexic-looking ber-hacker whos socially awkward and has a very personal sense of morals that she breaks the law now and then to impose. Theyre worth a try at least and I guess you can choose between swedish and translated english versions I think you would really enjoy Steven Saylor.. Mystery mingled with that times political feel (during Ciceros hay days) and historical facts described accurately! Yup, have read Ellis Peters... Derek Jacobi had the title roll (Brother Cadfael) in that TV series too... I like Ellis Peters AND P.C. Dogherty's Hugh Corbett series, but my fave Historical Crime Solver has got to be Falco hands down... It's so tongue in cheek and makes me giggle of and on, plus Lindsay Davis's usage of English is amazing. If you want to read another one read it in English and most def get the British version, they dumbed it up in the American printing. There's also Steven Saylor's books about Gordianus the Finder that are quite good... I think you might like those a lot actually... A lil' more historical accuracy and intrigue! Then we also have the SPQR Series by John Maddox Roberts, at times a lil' dry but also good. The Millenium series... Did you mean Stieg Larsson, cause that's what my search came up with, and no I'm not familiar. I can't freakin' type today.... I had to redo this comment like three times! Yup, I used to watch the series when they broadcasted it... I can愒 have been that old when they did that btw Derek Jacobi, who did Claudius, have sure been acting for some time now... I like him in Branagh's action version of Hamlet btw I forgot to mention that I扉e read one of the novels of that detective in Rome around the first century AD and I think it was kind of good Ever tried something by Ellis Peters about her crime solving monk because those are quite good too? Here's a few recommendations for you... All of the ones to you are now on my wish list... I could comment on them, but I think Amazon does it so much better. The Little Goddess Series by Amy Lane (Young Adult Urban Fantasy) River God and The Seventh Scroll by Wilbur Smith (Egyptian Fiction) The Nightside books by Simon R Green (Dark Urban Fantasy) The Veil Books by Christopher Golden (Fantasy) The Dark Hunter Series by Sherrilyn Kenyon (Urban Fantasy/Romance... Total fluff, but still very good!) The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop (Dark Fantasy, but oh WOW I fell in love, totally awesome!) The Jaguar Princess by Clare Bell (Also written for supposedly young adults, and HARD to find, but it's awesome if you can get your hands on a copy) The Novels of the Noble Dead by Barb and J.C. Hendee (Awesome Dark Fantasy) The Marcus Didius Falco Novels by Lindsey Davies (A hard boiled detective during the reign of Vespasian... Funny and awesomely written mysteries. Get the British version though, the American printing is not as good. Don't understand why they had to change 'em for Americans but they did... Amazon UK) The Flanders Panel and The Club Dumas (the Ninth Gate movie, but the book is MUCH better) by Arturo Perez-Reverte An Instance of the Fingerpost by Iain Pears (Historical British Mystery) Quincunx by Charles Palliser (What can I say... You just really have to read it, it's just uncommonly good. An Epic novel up there With Eco's Name of the Rose) Deus by Philip Boast (Knight's Templar and Masons mystery... Amazon shows 3 stars by 1 person, much better then that... Check it out on UK) The Angelique books by Anne Golon (Used to be SergeAnne Golon i.e Serge and Anne Golon... If you can find them you just have to read them, it's how I got my name, but other then that they are some of the best historical/adventure/romance books ever written) The Pillars Of the Earth by Ken Follet (I read it long before it made it to Ophra's book club... it's another WOW) The Hollows Books by Kim Harrison (Urban fantasy totally out there) Anything by Barbara Michaels, who's also Elizabeth Peters... OK... Some Swedish stuff and there you might have better luck on the UK once again, and then I will stop! The Crusades Trilogy by Jan Guillou (try 'em, you'll like 'em) According to Mary Magdalene by Marianne Fredriksson (the title says it all) IF Freja, Idun and Saga by Johanne Hildebrandt EVER gets translated to English you HAVE to read them.... Jerusalem and The Wonderful Adventures of Nils (She is one of the very few Swedes that ever got a Nobel prize in literature) and of course The Emigrants by Vilhelm Moberg (He SHOULD have gotten the prize too) Hope you find something to interest you... I could go on and on and on, but I have to stop somewhere! The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

I read all kinds of things, including lots of computer mags etc to keep up with what's going on! Currently, my interesting reading is Conspirators by Michael Andre Bernstein (historical fiction) and the latest issue of Wax Poetics (my favourite music mag, one of few that are intelligently written). Jamie reads LOTS of Science Magazines (also some art and pc graphics stuff), since they are laying around, I have taken to reading them too.... Otherwise I have only been an occasional reader of mags... The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

Well, doing a bit of re-reading at the moment, as I didn't want to carry hardcovers on the plane with me yesterday. This past week I enjoyed: - "Bone Crossed", Patricia Briggs (excellent) new Mercy Thompson #4 - re-reading "Iron Kissed" by Patricia Briggs, Mercy Thompson #3 - "Dead to the World" by Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse #4) - "Dead as a Doornail" by Charlaine Harris (Sookie Stackhouse #5) - "Micah" by Laurell K. Hamilton (Anita Blake #13) - "Mistral's Kiss" by Laurell K. Hamilton (Merry Gentry #5) Nothing much new, but all highly enjoyable and relaxing while on vacation. The Devil's right hand By Lilith Saintcrow The Life of Pi by Yann Martel Re-reading Lord of the flies by William Golding The shadow over Innsmouth H.P. Lovecraft Will update after I return these to these to the library for new ones Lord of the Flies is an awesome and thought provoking book. Have read it twice... PI I read a long time ago, but I seem to remember not liking it overly much... Devils right hand, LOVED it! The whole series was good, not as good as the first book. At the end of the series it got to be a tad whiny. I read some books from before she wrote the Devil series.Don't recommend them! I haven't read her new series yet, but I prolly will... Today it's an audio, "Promises in Death", while I'm driving. JD Robb series. Excellent. Also "Kitty Raises Hell", by Carrie Vaughn, as my take-along book. A little slow, but still a good read. I'm a sucker for werewolves and paranormal stuff. Have a great day. Regards, 2Shy I have thought about the Kitty books but haven't picked one up yet. A lil slow you say... I'm a total sucker for paranormal stuff too (especially urban fantasy), and have of course read all the "biggies", like: Laurella K Hamilton, Jim Butcher, Charlaine Harris, Barb & J C Hendee, Kim Harrison and of course Anne Rice too... I also adore Mary Janice Davidson's Undead series. She totally cracks me up with that one! You would really enjoy what I'm reading now...The Little goddess trilogy... This monday I bought and started reading this book: Charge! The interesting bits of military history by Justin Pollard I finished it on tuesday and can highly recommend it for anyone in the mood for reading about the more bizarre bits of warfare... like which one of Wellington's generals was basicly insane. Which commander in the american civil war had his orderly follow him around with a keg of whiskey on his back in the middle of a battle. It´s also full of stories about people showing basicly unbelievably much sang froid... The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

I just finished a great book called The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein. A great story narrated by a dog who tells of the trials and tribulations.....living with his family.....from puppydom to the moment he realizes "it is his time". It was refreshing to read this story in the eyes and mind of a dog.... The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

A book about the Finnish Winter War. You know about that one - and the amazing Carl Gustaf Mannerheim - but the others here would learn quite a lot about WWII by digging into the subject matter. The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

What a interesting idea, to write in your blog what you are reding from time to time, i惴 sure you can learn much about people if you know what they are reading. For me, it愀 going through many parts of literature, with a big focus on Fantasy and Sci-Fi, I love it to read about "What would if"-Storys, on the other side Fantasy is also good to dream and imagine about the storys and characters. The Book i惴 reading at the moment is a little bit strange, "Also sprach Zarathustra", Friedrich Nietzsche. I惴 also reading a Battle-Tech roman, "The Way of the Warrior", Loren Coleman, and at second time a really fantasic book, "Der Schwarm", Frank Sch酹zing, from my local library. P.S. I will apologize for my english, i know it愀 not the best, some time ago since i wrote something in english, i thnk i had to do a little bit more practice, otherwise i forgot it completely to think and write in english. I have different reading moods, and sometimes it's Fantasy or Sci-Fi... I pretty much don't read "serious" literature anymore. Did that a lot when I was younger, but now days I mostly read for escapism... I read trough "Also Spracht..." a long time ago, and only remember little snippets here and there.... I had a philosophy period, where I read stuff by such as Plato, Abelard, Machiavelli, More (didn't understand half of Utopia), Descartes, Nietzche, Marx, and Sartre... I gave up after awhile! Hamilton's first 10 Anita Blake Books and of course Anne Rice... Fantasy, well Jim Butcher have Codex Alera and I Love Anne Bishop's Black Jewels, and Fred Saberhagen is a big one both in Urban and straight out Fanatsy! I LOVED The Black Jewel Trilogy... I've read 'em twice! I read the first 4 in the Twilight series, but don't feel like reading the 5th... People rave about them, but I found them pretty boring and simplistic in their writing style (Anne Rice it's not). Definitely for teens! I think your 11 year old would be safe reading 'em, there sure isn't any sex and the heroine is pretty virtuous! My 21 year old is reading them and really enjoy the stories though.... I'm reading 'The Mitford Girls' along side 'letters between six sisters' about the mitford girls. I'm loving it....its a world away from the one that exists now and in many ways thank goodness for that! But amazing! The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

I'm reading 'The Mitford Girls' along side 'letters between six sisters' about the mitford girls. I'm loving it....its a world away from the one that exists now and in many ways thank goodness for that! But amazing! Whats the difference between kinky and perverted? Kinky is when you tickle your girl friends ass with a feather. Perverted is when you use the whole chicken...

I remember some of it now.... Being about trains... That's like saying the Gulliver's travels is about travels and midgets and giants or something like it! HR just never felt attractive to me for some reason, I started one, didn't get very far, but then I'm always the odd man out... I read A LOT. 2 novels a week while not traveling and 3 to 4 a week when I do travel. I am reading the entire Angelique books by Sergeanne Golon, took me weeks to get copies of all of them, except I have not found book 9, nor the 3 books that were never translated to English, I am looking for all 4. I am also reading two Jeffery Archer books, just finishing A Prisoner of Birth. It's hard to find good English translations... The best one is a big print editions but they only translated the first 2! Strange that they haven't translated more... The older translations were not the best... It was translated as trashy romance, which it is NOT in any way! Anyhow, I read 'em all as a teenager but in Swedish translation. My average is about 2 novels a week, but sometimes less (like when I have my hands on 957 pages) and sometimes up to 5! The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

I usually read a couple of books at a time, including audio books on the radio while driving around. Right now, I'm killing myself laughing over Denis Leary's "Why We Suck", just finished Iris Johansen's "Killer Dreams" (this morning) and just started Carrie Vaughn's "Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand" (this evening). In between I'm reading things about records management, HR issues, the economy, and my favorite trash, People Magazine. It's all good. Have a great day. Regards, 2Shy Dennis Leary now that could be fun... I have seen Carrie Vaughn floating around out there but never read her... Now Iris Johansen I have read plenty! Sometimes they are deadly good and sometime so so me thinks... I have been known to peruse People too.... The Swedish Angel What are we reading Those that makes me go hmmmmm

Gawds... I read that one a long time ago, but for the life of me can't remember what it's about.... Lol, I do that a lot, and then I have to dig 'em out to do some speed reading to refresh my memory. It's weird, I mostly remember WHAT I have read, but I can't remember what it's about????? If I have read a series and it takes a while for the next book to come out, I always have to back track. Maybe it's because I have read thousands and thousands of books? Then I have also done the beauty where I buy a book and then start reading and go, hmmmmmm sound familiar. I check my shelves somewhere in the back and sure enough there it is! Never read Harry Potter btw.... saw the movies and then I didn't want to read the books. I'm re-reading an old Dean Koontz book right now. However, I just finished another Jodi Picoult book called "Salem Falls". It's a play [and I don't mean theater] on a modern day witch hunt and the parallels between violent crime. I enjoyed it.
