Things I missed the first time around

Sinatra mentioned having a few regrets in "My Way. " I have a handful of regrets too. None too serious, but still.

I needed to both work and play harder in college, both undergrad and grad school. I was bright enough to cruise to solid high grades but could have gotten so much more had I really pushed myself.

Socially, I was shy and insecure so I didn't work hard at playing either. I tried to date without much success. I didn't explore sexually. Once I found a woman who was interested I kinda locked in but without enough experience to know that was the right thing to do.

80's rock music. I was into a snooty classical music mode then. Nothing wrong with that but when I go back and listen to 80's rock I wish I had been paying attention to what was playing in the bars. The stage play of Rock of Ages is great. Check it out if you get the chance. DO NOT think the movie version of Rock of Ages comes close. It isn't remotely and I can't recommend that ANYONE see it.

Weed? All of the states that are legalizing it have me thinking. I tried it back in the day. and wasn't impressed. Do I need to reconsider? Might it fall into the same category now as a fine martini?

Jobs? I've had the same one for decades. And it is a good one. But would I be better for having been challenged more?

So reflective already and I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee.

Mistakes I made a few but then again too few to mention. Love that line. Although if I reflect I have made quite a few. The best thing I have done was marrying my wife. Forty Three years later, here we are. Everything else has been a roller coaster. I prefer to look forward and not back. Hope you know it always can be worse. Reconsider the weed thing, tastes change and it helps with aching joints, no pun intended.

Hi Prof: I like the name of your blog. We are about the same age and I have been thinking about this too. Currently of two minds on it. Did I want an easy sail? Or is a life fighting your way out of scrapes you didn't create more rewarding?

Such is the use of difficulty. We are both still in it (read: upright) because of good decisions. I have a ton left to do and some great mistakes to make.
